The process typically begins with the gathering of information. We will send you some pre-assessment forms for you to complete and for you to ask family members, school, or work colleagues to gather this information. Don’t worry—the forms are relatively self-explanatory, but if you struggle, please contact us and we will guide you through them.
Once you have submitted your forms, these will be reviewed by a clinician. A QbCheck link will be sent to you and then an appointment will be booked with the clinician for an assessment.
The assessment will then take place at your appointment with the clinician. Following this, you will be provided with a full diagnostic report, and the next steps will be discussed with you including an appropriate treatment plan.
There are many different treatment options that can be considered:
- Psychoeducation: The individual and family (if appropriate) will be educated about ADHD in order to understand the condition and its implications.
- Behavioural interventions: These can help manage symptoms and include implementing structure and routine, setting clear expectations and goals. Reasonable adjustment letters can be provided to support school or work settings.
- Therapy: You may be referred for therapy such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which can help individuals develop coping strategies to improve executive functioning skills.
- Medication: Stimulant and non-stimulant medications may be prescribed to help manage ADHD symptoms. The clinician will work with the patient to find the right medication and dose.
The QbCheck is a computerised test that measures attention, impulsivity, and activity levels to support the assessment of ADHD. It helps your clinician understand how symptoms manifest in terms of attentional performance and activity levels during a task.
Don’t worry—if you're unable to complete the QbCheck, alternative approaches can be taken. The QbCheck is just one assessment tool that helps measure behavioural ADHD symptoms. Clinical judgment, as well as input from other clinicians, staff, school or work colleagues, or family members, can also be used to assess symptoms. You may be able to do a recheck if appropriate.
The process begins with the gathering of information. We will send you pre-assessment forms to complete and to share with family members, school, or work colleagues. Once submitted, the forms are reviewed by a clinician. You will then be booked for an ADOS assessment with one of our experienced assessors. Following that, a detailed neurodevelopmental assessment is undertaken by a clinician to determine whether you meet the diagnostic criteria for ASD. You will receive a full diagnostic report and a discussion of next steps, including an appropriate treatment plan.
